'barbe à queue' is another way saying to cook 'whole hog (pig), and seems plausible.
barabicu is the Taino word for a structure of sticks used to elevate stuff off the ground, including meat for cooking or drying.
'barbacoa'
was derived from the Taino word.
That's linking Mencken thinking! Such grill thrills also lead to 'buccaneer'!
